C. K. Kelly Martin

C. K. Kelly MartinLong before I was an author I was a fan of books about Winnie the Pooh, Babar, Madeline, Anne of Green Gables and anything by Judy Blume. Throughout high school my favourite class was English. No surprise, then, that most of my time spent at York University in Toronto was as an English major—not the traditional way to graduate with a B.A. in Film Studies but a fine way to get a general arts education.

After graduation I headed for Dublin, Ireland and spent the majority of the nineties there in forgettable jobs meeting unforgettable people and enjoying the buzz. I always thoughts I'd get around to writing in earnest eventually and I began writing my first novel in a flat in Dublin and finished it in a Toronto suburb. Since then I've had five young adult novels published: I Know It's Over, One Lonely Degree, The Lighter Side of Life and Death, My Beating Teenage Heart and Yesterday. ( Read more about my YA books.)

Come See About Me is my first novel to feature an adult main character, but it still has a lot of the same youthful energy and intensity as my YA books. I find myself drawn to those qualities time and time again! Other things I find myself repeatedly drawn to are good movies, music and plays, the seaside and lakefronts, pistachio gelato and London, England. An avid interest in web site design prompted me to design my first writer's site, The Start of Something.com, which was named one of the top ten in Writer's Digest 2001 Best Web Site Competition. I also designed and maintain my main writer's site: ckkellymartin.com.

I'm always reading something new and writing something new and I absolutely believe in the John Lennon quote, "If someone thinks that love and peace is a cliché that must have been left behind in the Sixties, that's his problem. Love and peace are eternal." Currently residing near Toronto with my Dub husband, I became an Irish citizen in 2001 and continue to visit Dublin—which will forever have my heart—as often as I can.
